Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations
Please make an appointment at least eight weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover. A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS. A list of these charges is available in our waiting area and can be downloaded here (RTF, 45KB).
Vaccinations cannot be arranged at short notice
Additional information can be found at the NHS Travel Vaccinations site
Travel advice appointments can be booked with the nurses where they can give common travel injections.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Our practice nurse is available to offer medical advice regarding travel and vaccinations where appropriate.
Do plan ahead, even if you are thinking about booking a last minute holiday - don't leave your vaccinations until the last minute.
Give details of your proposed journeys to a receptionist about six to eight weeks before you travel and the nurse will give you advice on the vaccinations you need.
Please do make an appointment as soon as possible (ideally at the time you book your journey), but at least 8 weeks prior to your holiday to ensure adequate cover.
Our practice nurses are available to offer medical advice regarding travel and vaccinations where appropriate.
Do plan ahead – even if you are thinking about booking a last minute holiday, don't leave your vaccinations until the last minute.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TRAVEL VACCINATIONS ARE CHARGEABLE – see reception staff for more information.
BE PREPARED! Don't leave your vaccination arrangements until the last minute. Some vaccinations require a course of injections, several weeks apart.
We recommend that you book an assessment appointment with our Nurse as soon as you book your trip. This should allow plenty of time to assess which immunisations you require and, hopefully allow plenty of time to schedule in the injections in good time before your trip.
If on medication, do carry a good supply and keep it in your hand luggage, in case of loss or delay.
Vaccines available at Abridge Surgery are:
