From the end of March 2014, the NHS will be allowed to share all patient records unless the patient has opted out of this process.
The following information will be shared across the NHS:
- NHS number
- Date of birth
- Postcode
The following information will not be shared across the NHS:
Requests by patients must be in writing using the pre-printed form “Dissent from secondary use of patient identifiable data” or the form on the “Important Changes to your Medical records” leaflet.
This form is available from reception at the surgery.
Information given by patients is then scanned onto the patient record and coded onto the system to ensure that data is not shared.
